Website delivery and email

The server processes IP addresses, requested files, timestamps and technical browser details to deliver pages, diagnose problems and protect the website. Hosting and security providers may receive this information. Technical logs are retained as needed for troubleshooting or security review; specific incidents may require longer retention. Actual logging depends on the server configuration.

If you email us, we use your email address and message to respond. Mail providers process messages as part of delivery. Correspondence is kept until the matter is resolved and any applicable legal or recordkeeping requirements have ended. The website has no accounts, booking service, payments or contact forms.

Language selection

If you visit the language-neutral root page without a saved language choice, your browser requests https://ipwho.is/?fields=success,country_code. IPWHOIS receives your IP address and connection information. DE, AT, CH and LI select German; other countries, including the United States, select English. Errors and waits exceeding five seconds also fall back to English. Direct /en/ and /de/ pages do not make this request. A saved manual choice takes priority.

IPWHOIS describes processing in different countries and retention based on the purposes of processing. See its privacy notice. Hosting and mail services may also process data outside your country depending on the services used.

Cookies and browser storage

This English edition does not use analytics or affiliate trackers and does not set tracking cookies. It has no cookie consent pop-up or settings panel. The absence of a panel does not authorize future tracking. If data practices change, this notice and any required choices will be updated before the new processing begins.

Your manual language preference is stored by this website in localStorage as ostsee-language, without automatic expiration. Change it using the language links or remove it by clearing site data in your browser. If storage is blocked, the selection cannot be remembered across visits.

If you previously visited the German edition, a separate ostsee-consent preference may remain in the same browser storage. It is used only by the German edition, has a 180-day validity period and is not read or applied by English pages. You can remove it by clearing this website’s browser data.
